Teams : Competitive - U-11 and older
The Vail Soccer Club (VSC) will use the term “competitive” to reference all teams that play within VSC at age U-11 and above. The term “competitive” signifies that teams play in the Pima County Junior Soccer League (PCJSL) with teams from other club programs across Tucson. Having learned the basic three goals of VSC’s program while playing at the recreational level----this age group will now focus on the “excellence of the game”. As such, these teams will eventually practice and play full-sided soccer games (11v11) (U-11’s will play 8v8) and focus on advanced player development--emphasizing the aspects of “open space”, movement off the ball, field management, and player awareness. Competitive teams are designed with the intention of “playing” in the correct division within PCJSL. This allows for spirited competition while at the same time assuring proper “seeding” to take into consideration the level of play of any given team. PCJSL plays games at the Golf Links Complex, Ochoa/Jacobs Fields, and Udall Park. These games are on Saturdays and follow the PCJSL schedule. Practice times and days are coach determined, but you should anticipate two practice sessions per week. VSC’s home field for practices is the west field at Cienega High School. VSC will use the following age group chart from US Youth Soccer to determine proper teams. This, and “tryouts” will largely indicate team composition.
The competitive season is designed to follow the PCJSL schedule which tends to follow the TUSD school year. That said, teams with junior high/middle school players should expect a season from November until February. High School players should expect a season from September until the start of TUSD High School Soccer (November), and then again from the end of February through March.
